Michael Goodwin was a guest panelist at a discussion on “Diversity at the Bar – is it really accessible for all”

Michael appeared with Karon Monaghan QC (Matrix Chambers), Riaz Hussain QC (Atkin Chambers) , Benjamin Burns (Education Policy Analyst from the Bar Council) & Amit Popat (Head of Equality and Access to Justice at the Bar Standards Board).

The panel discussion and Q&A session focused on current perceptions of the Bar, encouraging and the promotion of diversity at the Bar and the progress being made to reduce discrimination and improve equality. Particularly interesting points covered during the discussion included the distinction between positive discrimination and positive action, the need for contextual recruitment and the notion that we need to address discrimination before we can even begin to discuss equality and diversity.

Michael is a member of the Criminal Bar Association Social Mobility Committee, works with the Young Citizens organisation and acts a student mentor for Inner Temple.
